the homily. The reason is that there is no homily. In place we join hands and sing
together
Silent Night
. This choir of voices includes the familiar and unfamiliar,
those who show up but once a year, non-Catholics, visitors and all other seek-
ers. Now the Church comes alive where all are welcome, each is cherished and
those who are absent are missed. Only then does the song become a prayer. Will
this image come to life around our Christmas tables? The prayer is that we may
cherish those present and miss those who are absent. In generosity hold a prayer
too for those who have no table, no home, no Church. In the end they may be
closer to God, or perhaps God is closer to them? Could it be that they are our
teachers about the real meaning of Christmas?
Prayer
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth "
