Simeon and Anna lived in the mystery, for that reason they were able to see the
Christ child for all he was and still is.
After Simeon and Anna speak prophetically about the potential of the child, the
child and his parents return to Nazareth where he grows in wisdom and favor.
This gospel is to all people of good will, all who strive to be disciples of Jesus
Christ. Christ praises these little ones for being open to God’s revelation. What-
ever your age or status in life, each of us can be or service to the Lord.
Each winter after the New Year, our parish sponsors a mission. These missions
are meant to inspire and enrich the disciple’s life. Each year many people pre-
pare for the mission and yet we always wonder where the others are. Why do so
few people attend? How do we get people to show up? I think my job, like that
of Simeon and Anna, is to tell all I meet about this remarkable opportunity--an
opportunity to grow in wisdom and favor, to be an example to the children of this
community, to be present and open to the mystery.
Prayer
Lord, we give you the glory and praise due.
May heaven and earth rejoice for you rule your people with justice.
Open our minds to
your word,
Open our hearts to
your love
Open our hands to
your people
Amen
