Strive to enter through the narrow gate,
Reflection
When I first read this scripture, I felt only about myself; will I have the
strength to enter the narrow gate? As I envision my own judgment day,
I pray for God’s Mercy. Will I be strong enough, or will I be an outsider
repenting after the master has locked the door? As I read on, I was
comforted by Jesus’s teaching that people will come from the east and
the west and from the north and the south and recline at table in the
Kingdom of God. The gate to salvation, while narrow is inclusive.
As I focused on that nar-
row gate; I began to look
at what keeps me from
loving and being inclusive
in my own life
.
How often do I perform an
instant poll in my head
and make snap judgments
about others with limited
or no information about
that person’s history or
mystery? Where is my
willingness to do the hard
work to build my character
instead of tearing down
that of others?
